Tide source and limits
Open-Meteo marine API, Météo-France SMOC, approximately 8 km resolution. Sea level includes tides, air pressure and other ocean effects. Coastal accuracy is limited. These are model predictions, not observed readings or water depth above chart datum. The reference is global mean sea level, not lowest astronomical tide.
High and low water are estimated from neighbouring hourly samples, without minute-level interpolation. The actual turning time may fall between samples. Flat turning periods are shown as a time range; missing data and forecast edges cannot create events.

Plan for three different beaches
Selong Belanak Beach is the main lesson beach; Mawi and Serangan offer reef surf for more experienced surfers. This area forecast opens with the Selong Belanak reference. The three beaches can share offshore and wind model cells, so matching numbers do not mean matching waves at the shore.
South Lombok’s dry-season trade winds generally come from the east to southeast, blowing toward the west to northwest. This pattern often favours Mawi, especially with easterly winds. In the wet season, winds more often come from the west to northwest; northwesterly winds can be offshore at Serangan. Serangan can also work at low tide during the dry season when the wind is nearly still, often early in the morning. Actual wind, swell and tide decide the day’s options.

Offshore waves and swell
Combined waves describe the significant offshore sea state, including swell and wind waves. Swell is shown separately with its period and source direction. Neither height is a prediction of the waves breaking on the beach.
Wind direction
Wind directions name where the wind comes from. An easterly wind (E) blows from east toward west; a northwesterly (NW) blows from northwest toward southeast. Offshore wind blows from land toward sea, so the favourable direction depends on the beach.
Conditions colour key
The hour colours compare the forecast wind and estimated tide with local and published guidance. Confidence is low while the rules are refined. Green means potentially good for surfers with suitable experience; swell and breaking waves need a local check. Grey means guidance, data or local wind exposure is unconfirmed. Mawi turns red at an offshore wave height of 5 m or above; lower heights are not a safety assurance.
The initial wind limits are provisional: nearly still means wind and gusts at most 3 kn; favourable offshore wind is at most 10 kn, with gusts at most 15 kn. Estimated low tide is the lower third of the range between neighbouring high and low water; mid tide is the middle third. Mawi also allows higher tide, especially for its right; light ESE–SE wind remains unconfirmed until checked locally. These starting limits need local calibration. Selong Belanak remains unconfirmed while its tide preference is pending.
A regional view of the coast
These three beaches share the same offshore and wind model grid cells, so their forecasts can match. Local shelter, seabed and shoreline shape can change conditions at the beach. Check conditions locally before heading into the water.
